German Historian Terms the Two 'Brothers in Blood and in Spirit'

BERLIN, July 7.—The first congress of German historians under the National Socialist regime, which opened at Erfurt yesterday with an address by Dr. Walther Frank, head of the Institute for History of the Third Reich, got down to grips with the Jewish question today. Professor Wilhelm Grau delivered an attack on the House of Rothschild as the despotism of Jewish finance. He said:

"The Rothschilds introduced the rule of money into European politics. Money without a fatherland, without a soul and without faith became the dominating influence in politics. The Rothschilds were the servants of money who undertook to reconstruct the world as an image of money and its functions. Money and the employment of wealth became the law of European life.

"The idea of a world held by German finance included no nations, only economic provinces. This idea is closely related to that of the Marxists. Rothschild and Marx were brothers in blood and in spirit. National Socialism's victory struck the first real blow to an international of this form and recalled the nations to their real duties."

Asserting that there was hardly a European State not in debt to the Rothschilds in the first half of the nineteenth century, Professor Grau charged that they controlled foreign policy. He said that relations with various European nations became part of the financial system of the Rothschilds and other Jewish capitalists and were so manipulated as to bring a maximum of profit.

The Rothschilds, he also said, had no principle in their manipulation of European foreign policy except the desire for gain because they held that by piling up wealth they could best help their less powerful Jewish brethren. Since 1878, Professor Grau said, the House of Rothschild has been anti-German. He pointed out that the house never published its archives.

Professor Christoph Stedding preceded Professor Grau with a lecture attacking the German "cultural historians." He declared that cultural history is an affair for nations without a historic mission. National Socialism's coming, he claimed, brought a German historic mission. The advent of National Socialism, he claimed, brought German historians back from cultural history to political history which is the only real history.
